Are there still federation issues with Lemmy.world? There’s communities where I don’t see posts from yesterday still.

would like to be able to post to my own profile as a microblog

Community iconc/piefed_meta@piefed.social by
Apytele@sh.itjust.works

right now mbin microblogs still have to be under a magazine (/community) and I had to make a separate community to have all my personal microblogs in one spot like I would have had with mastodon posts to my own mastodon account. I’d like to be able to microblog just as a tab in my user profile that aren’t directly associated to any magazine / community and are only associated to my account. If this was a feature I would definitely switch to piefed since mbin did not implement the stated function (at least imo).

It would be a nice option to be able to block a single post. Like the TIL bot just posted about a poor kid that was killed by a stupid nurse. I’d rather not see that. Things stupid people do kinda haunt me. I was physically disabled by an even more stupid person. It would be nice if I could avoid thinking about stuff like that. I’ll probably browse past that post 3-4 times this evening.

Lutris doesn't proton variations such as Proton-EM?

Community iconc/linux_gaming@lemmy.world by

Hi guys! I am changing distro and am kinda settling on KDE-Neon (ubuntu based), as this was pretty reliable for me back in the day. So far it’s been all great, but I’m wondering why Lutris (which came pre-configured and untouchable in a way in Nobara) won’t detect additional proton installs. I’m using ProtonPlus with Lutris chosen, and I have installed for example Proton-EM. I can see ProtonPlus did download and add a folder on my user:

In my formative years it was accepted by most that the point and click adventure game was a dead genre. Sure, a handful were still being made, but more often than not these remained nostalgic takes hearkening back to the true heyday of the genre. Most devotees would instead stick to their old favourites, even in the face of mounting incompatibility challenges. These were issues that The Wyrmkeep Entertainment Co. would attempt to solve, starting with Inherit the Earth and The Labyrinth of Time.

[Bazzite] Suddenly, many games are crashing in the menus?

Community iconc/linux_gaming@lemmy.world by
FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works

For the past week or so, it has been near impossible to play the following Steam games: Stalker 2 (UE5), Misery (UE5), Satisfactory (UE5), House Flipper (Unity!). At some point within 20 minutes of playing, opening a menu, map, inventory, or pause screen, etc. will freeze and crash the game. There is no bug report afterword, just a crash to desktop. I have many hours in all of those games, and never had a problem like this before. I play satisfactory and/or stalker daily. I thought it was a UE5 thing but maybe it is a DX12 thing? 2D games work fine. I have tried various proton versions through steam to no avail.

Open-Source Nouveau+NVK vs. NVIDIA 580 Linux Gaming/Graphics & Compute Driver Performance (phoronix.com)

This Black Friday is an in-depth look at the current performance of the open-source NVIDIA Linux driver stack with the Nouveau kernel driver (the Nova driver not yet being ready for end-users) paired with the latest Mesa NVK driver for open-source Vulkan API support. With that NVK Vulkan driver is also looking at the OpenGL performance using the Zink OpenGL-on-Vulkan driver used now for OpenGL on modern NVIDIA GPUs rather than maintaining the Nouveau Gallium3D driver. Plus the Rusticl driver for OpenCL compute atop the NVK driver. This fully open-source and latest NVIDIA Linux driver support was compared to NVIDIA’s official 580 series Linux driver. Both RTX 40 Ada and RTX 50 Blackwell graphics cards were tested for this thorough GPU driver comparison

I picked up an AMD 9060 XT the other week and tested it out by dual-booting Bazzite. Helldivers 2, TRYP FPV Drone Racing, Mud Runner all ran as expected, it was wicked.

Had not looked in the settings in awhile. Feature request Features

Community iconc/piefed_meta@piefed.social by

A lot of awesome things I configured. One thing though is the don’t show things you read. I would love it if it was a check box or something always present in the header. Basically it would be great to have it enabled but you kinda want to be able to simply and quickly disable it if you want to go back and look at something you had looked at earlier without going into settings. EDITED - hey so was thinking about it more and a mark as read in the feed would up how useful the don’t show read option is. EDIT2 - so you know I generally don’t up or down vote but this feature is useful enough that I realize I can control by upvoting everything that I ironically don’t want to see in my feed when I refresh. Its a bit disingenuous but im not sure it matters as the problem with voting are peoples standars are so very different overall.

Problems with Diablo 1 via GoG

Community iconc/linux_gaming@lemmy.world by
xtapa@discuss.tchncs.de

I recently bought Diablo 1 via GoG and wanted to install it on my Dell Latitude for couch sessions. I installed it via Heroic and everything seemed fine, but after the Blizzard splash, the game stays black. Sometimes, when I tab out, some menu texts appear in the tab switcher thumbnail, but thats about it. I fumbled around with the graphics settings in the pre-game settings window (which is really tiny) and tries window mode, different resolutions etc. but nothing changed.

How many posts per hour is acceptable? Question

Community iconc/piefed_meta@piefed.social by
Rimu@piefed.social

I recently did a bit of digging and found that the most-blocked accounts are those that do big floods of posts, some only seconds apart. One possible way to deal with this could be to rate-limit the posts by turning posts into unpublished scheduled posts when they start posting too fast. The scheduled posts would eventually be published, but in the future at a sensible speed. But when should the rate limit kick in?

I had been saying this stuff for awhile to family based on lil updates on the back end like their x86 emulation and when i first heard about waydroid integration it was so obvious they planned to make quest games easily ported over, its fuckin awesome, everything i expected and i couldnt be happier. i would love to install steamos on my quest 3 if its ever possible lol idk why i said implementing waydroid into proton and emulating quest games tho obviously ik thats not how either works i think i just mispoke in the excitement lol waydroid is implemented into steamos and quest games are natively ran through it obviously.

developer of game 'Rust' talks about anticheat on linux

Community iconc/linux_gaming@lemmy.world by
Cus@lemmy.zip

This is so funny because rust has one of the worst cheating situations and majority of their players are windows users, and theres lots of games that have anticheat that allows linux and have notably less significant cheating problems like marvel rivals. in reality rust doesn’t take cheating very seriously because if they did they would have more server side software that detects illegitimate behaviour like tons of other games do successfully…… even most popular Minecraft servers have better functioning anti cheat that is completely server side than rust has while getting kernel access to your pc. its pathetic and lazy development tbh and this entire post from them reads like such extreme cope….
